Session 4 | January 23, 2026 | In-Person Session
The concluding in-person session shifted the Community of Practice from discussion to application. Participants worked directly with community-identified case studies to co-create actionable insights grounded in equity, decolonization, and lived experience. The session emphasized humility, power-sharing, and sustained relationship-building as essential to addressing complex SDG challenges.
Session Summary
- Applying Knowledge Co-Production: Participants collaboratively developed practice-relevant insights using real-world community cases related to health, housing, aging, and youth well-being.
- Community Partner Leadership: Case studies from Nucleus Independent Living and YouthLink grounded discussions in lived realities and system-level constraints.
- Asset-Based & Strength-Focused Approaches: Emphasis on recognizing community assets, social infrastructure, and relational care rather than deficit-based models.
- Equity & Decolonization in Practice: Participants critically examined who is missing, whose knowledge is valued, and how colonial assumptions shape problem definitions and solutions.
- Rethinking Metrics & Impact: Strong interest emerged in qualitative, narrative-based, and community-defined measures of success.
- Looking Forward: Reflections highlighted growth in understanding co-production as a long-term commitment rooted in trust, listening, and shared accountability.
I found that translating our understanding of the world to an applicable system like applying them to re-frame the case studies valuable. I will be interested in working on such projects where sustainability challenges are discussed and complex or wicked problems are reimagines and approached in a multi-disciplinary way. I am very interested in learning how to convert ideas and knowledge into practical, working, applicable intervention and solutions.
