Transdisciplinary Knowledge Co-Production Community of Practice

Do you want to build and expand your network of experts and emerging leaders who are conducting transformative research and crucial community engagement? Look no further for an opportunity to find solutions and gain skills that address challenges in transdisciplinary research, with a unique focus on the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations on local, national, and global scales.  

The SDGs@UofT is piloting a Transdisciplinary Knowledge Co-Production in Sustainable Development Goals Research Community of Practice (TKC-SDGs CoP) in January 2025. Join this one-of-a-kind opportunity and become leaders of change.  

What are the objectives of the CoP?

  • Establish a network of researchers and community partners engaged in TKC research that addresses one or more SDGs.   
  • Create mechanisms and structures that enable TKC research and evaluation processes between researchers and community partners (external to higher education) to advance the SDGs.  
  • Provide opportunities for skill building for early career researchers and trainees interested in conducting TKC relevant to SDGs.

What is the commitment?  

Four meetings (quarterly): 

  • One in-person (half-day) 
  • Three virtual (90 minutes) 
  • Online chat to permit ongoing communication  

The anticipated outcomes of the CoP include:

  1. Increased understanding of how to apply TKC to SDGs research in particular among early-career researchers, post-doctoral fellows, and master's and Ph.D. students.   
  1. Increased understanding among community partners (e.g., non-governmental organizations) of how to apply TKC research approaches in community organizations and settings.   
  1. Improved models of meaningful and reciprocal relationships with community partners   
  1. Increased confidence and empowerment to practice TKC skills within personal and professional spaces  
  1. Established novel network/support for questions/interests on TKC in SDGs research
