MOUSSA P. BLIMPO is an Assistant Professor of Economic Inequality and Societies at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. He formerly served as a Senior Economist in the Office of the Chief Economist for the Africa Region at the World Bank. His research addresses various issues, including education and labor economics, infrastructure, and informality in Africa. He has led research programs at the World Bank on electricity access and digital development in Africa, among others, publishing key reports such as “Electricity Access in Sub-Saharan Africa” in 2019 or “Digital Africa, Technological Transformation for Jobs” in 2023. Some of his recent work explores the nexus between energy, development, and climate change. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Development Economics, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, World Bank Economic Review, World Development, Energy Policy, Economic Development and Cultural Change, and the Journal of African Economies. In addition, Moussa was the founding director of the Center for Research and Opinion Polls (CROP), a think tank in his home country of Togo. Moussa holds a PhD in Economics from New York University.
