MaryAnne Arnoldo, a graduate student in the MEnvSc program (research stream) at University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus) is hoping to conduct research in the area of agroecology and sustainable agricultural systems. She also plans to begin a Collaborative Specialization in Development Policy and Power in September 2024. She is a mature student, having graduated with BSc in 1984 and MSc in 1992 (both at UofT), with specialties in botany. In her career she worked as a research associate in a plant biotechnology lab (15 years) and then as a patent agent specializing in biotechnology inventions (21 years). She took an early retirement to pursue agricultural research that could help feed the global population with limited harm to the environment. She believes that as a global community, if we can find alternatives to current agriculture practices, we can achieve the sustainable development goals of “Zero hunger”, “Sustainable cities and communities”, “Climate action”, “Life on land” and “Partnerships for the goals”.
