Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics

Jeffrey Sun is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Toronto. He graduated with a PhD in Economics from Princeton University in 2024. He is interested in combining climate science and structural economic modeling to study the impacts of climate-driven environmental changes in economic equilibrium. He also develops computational tools for solving rich heterogeneous-agent models, to improve the ability of economic models to capture inequalities in climate impacts. His current research interests skew towards studying specific market failures which impede climate mitigation and adaptation, suggesting the potential for non-zero-sum policies which may be able to attract broader support than carbon taxes.
