Amy Fernando

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba (Treaty 1 Territory), Amy is currently a graduate student at the University of Toronto studying environmental pollutants. Broadly, she is interested in documenting how environmental exposures alter population health and wellbeing. She currently serves on the Planetary Health Alliance Steering Committee and on the student advisory group for the Committee for Environment, Climate Change, and Sustainability. She is a recipient of the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Medicine Summer Studentship, the Canada Graduate Scholarship – Master's, and the General Motors Women in Science & Mathematics Scholarship.  Prior to the University of Toronto, Amy studied Integrative Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba (BSc (Hons) '23) and worked on environmental and education projects at the Rideau Hall Foundation. She is interested in leveraging the SDGs framework to amplify and integrate policy-relevant scientific research. Additionally, she has written about the relevance of the SDGs to other interdisciplinary sustainability frameworks.
